The European Cinema Audiences
(AHRC 2018-2021) project’s main aim is to investigate the role of cinema-going
in everyday life in post-war Europe through the memories of its audiences
across 7 countries. However, our digital repository’s functionalities will help
us make sense of the popularity of films in the cities under scrutiny through
cross-analysis of the film programming in the years 1951-1953. This paper will
present the first geographical analysis of film popularity, which will allow us
to reflect on how different film trajectories and consumption was for audiences
in Italy, the Netherlands or Sweden.
