John Sedgwick is a Visiting Researcher at Oxford Brookes University. He researches into the business and economic history of film and is particularly interested in the ontological characteristics of film as a commodity and measures of film popularity and what these tell us about audience preferences and industry structure. His research is for the greater part collaborative and based mostly in the American, Australian, British, Dutch, Italian and international markets during the 1930s and 1950/60s. He has written a monograph, edited an anthology and published articles in Business History, Cinema Journal, Economic History Review, Explorations in Economic History, Enterprise and Society, Film History, Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, Journal of Applied Statistics, Journal of Cultural Economics, Journal of Economic History, and Journal of Transnational Cinema.
